DESCRIPTION:About this Training: \nUmatter for Schools aims to help teams build comprehensive suicide prevention awareness\, strong and thoughtful conversation facilitation\, understanding of roles and responsibilities\, protocols for prevention and postvention situations\, and be positioned to teach and train other school employees awareness basics in the effort to fortify a solid suicide prevention foundation and culture. Participant teams will engage in all aspects of Umatter Suicide Prevention Awareness Training via self paced asynchronous modules and virtual live zoom sessions. \nWho should attend: \nSchools are encouraged to send teams with a minimum of two people consisting of a guidance counselor\, nurse\, health educator\, mental health provider\, and/or administrator. Support of school administration is recommended. \nCost is $800 per person. With a team of 3 or more\, your administrator/principal gets a free registration. \nFree Participation for GLS Registrants from Bennington\, Chittenden\, Rutland\, and Windham Counties\, made possible by funding from the VT Department of Health\, and for AWARE Registrants SOUTHWEST VERMONT SUPERVISORY UNION\, BARRE UNIFIED\nUNION SCHOOL DISTRICT\, AND CALEDONIA CENTRAL SUPERVISORY UNION\, made possible by funding from the VT Department of Mental Health. \n*Registrants supported by GLS funding are expected to appoint an evaluation liaison from their team to track screening-related data reported quarterly. DESCRIPTION:“Like CPR\, QPR is an emergency response to someone in a suicide crisis. Also\, like CPR in the Chain of Survival from a life-threatening medical crisis\, early recognition of warning signs\, early intervention and early professional assessment and care can save lives.” – QPR Institute \nNKHS offers QPR (Question\, Persuade\, Refer) introduction to suicide training for adults and caretakers to raise awareness\, dispel myths and misconceptions\, and teach three skills that can help save a life. A QPR trainee will learn to recognize the warning signs of suicide\, how to offer hope\, and how to get help. \nWhat to expect in the 90-minute Zoom training: \n– A pre & post training survey \n– An interactive training with time for questions\, comments\, and reactions \n– Introductory videos (Learn QPR) \n– Review common myths\, misconceptions\, and statistics about suicide and warning signs of suicidal behavior\, how to question\, persuade\, and refer to offer hope \nCertified QPR instructors are available after the formal training to talk with participants. \nParticipants receive Northeast Kingdom\, Vermont\, and national suicide prevention contacts\, the QPR booklet\, and a Certificate of Completion. \n

DESCRIPTION:Hope Starts Here – Prioritize\, Invest\, and Connect for Mental Wellness\nWednesday\, January 29\, 2025\n8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. \nIn Person at the Statehouse and Vermont Supreme Courthouse Auditorium at 111 State Street\, Montpelier \nJoin us for the 10th Annual Mental Health Advocacy Day on January 29th from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Statehouse and the Vermont Supreme Courthouse Auditorium. Hundreds of mental health advocates and over 50 co-sponsoring organizations and their network will be calling on Vermont leaders and legislators to support the mental health of Vermonters. Our key theme is “Hope Starts Here – Prioritize\, Invest\, and Connect for Mental Wellness”. \nYou can join the morning program either virtually or in-person at the Vermont Supreme Courthouse Auditorium from 9 am-12 pm. The agenda includes a welcome address from state leaders\, a legislative panel discussion\, advocacy awards\, and advocates sharing their lived experience stories of recovery and hope. ASL Interpreters will be available. \nIn the afternoon\, events will continue at the Statehouse where attendees will meet with legislators\, provide testimony to committees\, and be recognized by the House of Representatives with a Resolution. Mental Health Advocates will be at the Statehouse Card Room on January 29th\, allowing for an opportunity to meet and greet legislators!
