SUMMARY:Using Location Analysis to Inform Community Suicide Prevention Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Understanding the locations where suicide deaths and attempts occur is an important component of a comprehensive suicide prevention approach. In this webinar\, Dr. Kimberly Repp\, Chief Epidemiologist for Washington County\, Oregon\, will review innovative data-driven prevention efforts that were implemented in her county using a novel suicide surveillance system and suicide fatality review process. Dr. Repp will describe how this novel analysis led to different mitigation and prevention strategies\, including outreach and training for hotel staff where suicides had occurred. The Department of Health will also provide a brief overview of location-specific data analysis and trends in Vermont. Attendees are encouraged to bring questions for discussion. \nABOUT THE PRESENTER: \nDr. Kimberly Repp is the Chief Epidemiologist for Washington County\, Oregon\, where she leads the county’s epidemiologic response and oversees the Medical Examiner’s office. With a PhD in Microbiology and an MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics\, her work includes an innovative suicide surveillance system that has been nationally recognized. Dr. Repp continues to advance public health practice through evidence-based interventions grounded in field investigation. \nThis webinar is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through the Vermont Department of Health. \n
