Mental Health First Aid for (those supporting) Older Adults
United Way of Northwest Vermont is presenting a series of Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults Certification trainings sponsored by MVP Health Care.
Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults is an 8-hour public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adults over the age of 65, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an older adult in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge.
Through role-playing and simulations, you will learn how to assess the signs and symptoms of a mental health challenge; select interventions; provide initial help; and connect people to professional, peer and social supports as well as self-help resources.
Older adults have high rates of late-onset mental health challenges, like anxiety and depression, and low rates of identification and treatment. Whether you need to assist today or years from now, this certification gives you the confidence you need to have the conversations that will allow older adults to live as comfortably as possible.
United Way is able to offer these trainings free of charge thanks to MVP Health Care’s generous sponsorship. Space is limited and registration is required.
