The Safety Planning Intervention: A Skill Building Training Using the Stanley Brown Tool

The Stanley Brown Safety Planning Intervention (SPI) is a brief, evidence-based approach designed to reduce suicide risk by helping individuals recognize warning signs, build coping strategies, and identify sources of support.

This free training offers an overview of the Stanley Brown SPI tool and provides hands-on practice to help participants build confidence in using the intervention with people experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

Participants will learn how to:

Understand the structure and components of the Stanley Brown SPI form

Practice administering SPI through interactive role-play exercises
